Movie Review: The Six Triple Eight (2024)
By Pat Freeman, The Mighty O’Ba
Tyler Perry’s The 6888 tells the true story of an Ohio woman who made monumental history during World War II. Kerry Washington plays the role of U.S. Army Major Charity Adams Earley, a trailblazing officer of the women’s army corps. This movie, from the beginning offered another view of the times when African- Americans were discriminated against to serve this country, even during times of war. The women were given an impossible task of sorting millions of pieces of mail to be delivered to soldiers on the front lines whose morale was dropping every day because they had lost touch with their families. Even given a task that seemed impossible, this battalion of all Black women used their special insight to solve this impossible problem. Kerry Washington delivered an Oscar worthy performance. This is a movie that will touch a special place for all of us. I grade it as a must see. Tyler Perry did an outstanding job of putting together this historical story line that struck a chord in the annals of this country focusing on the mistreatment of black people trying to defend this country during times of war. Tyler Perry is certainly worthy of an Oscar for bringing this great film to the screen which includes Oprah Winfrey as Mary McLeod Bethune an educator, humanitarian, and civil rights activist. This is a must see film, especially if you appreciate historical reenactments. Also, Kerry Washington fans will not be disappointed!
