On February 5, 2025, Buffalo Mayor Christopher P. Scanlon welcomed the University at Buffalo Bulls football team to City Hall, presenting them with a proclamation in recognition of their outstanding achievements during the 2024 season.
Joined by Head Coach Pete Lembo and UB Athletic Director Mark Alnutt, Mayor Scanlon declared February 5, 2025, as “Buffalo Bulls Football Day” in the City of Buffalo.
This special recognition honors the Bulls’ successful season under Head Coach Lembo, who led the team to an impressive 9-4 record in his first year. The highlight of the season came with a 26-7 victory over Liberty in the Bahamas Bowl on December 21, 2024—marking the Bulls' first bowl win in six years.
Mayor Scanlon also acknowledged UB Athletic Director Mark Alnutt for his leadership and unwavering commitment to the university’s athletic programs.
In his remarks, Mayor Scanlon commended the team not only for their on-field accomplishments but also for their academic excellence. He highlighted the 12 players named to the 2024 Academic All-Mid-American Conference team.
“Buffalo is a city that values hard work, perseverance, and teamwork —qualities that this team has demonstrated all season long,” said Mayor Scanlon. “Their accomplishments have brought pride to our city and inspired young athletes across Western New York.”
